A thrilling five-star international Gypsy Swing double bill. Manouche or gypsy-jazz was invented, apparently out of thin air, in the early 1930s by the miraculous Belgian gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt. Tonight we celebrate his legacy with two exciting projects: Les Violons de Bruxelles: Violin superstar Tcha Limberger was born into a renowned Belgian family of Manouche musicians, growing up in the musical world of the Gypsy swing style of Django Reinhardt. “The virtuoso king of Gypsy music” (The Times) is the leader of Les Violons de Bruxelles – an all-string swing orchestra that turn the standard Hot Club ensemble on its head with two violins, viola, double bass and guitar. Musical excitement with virtuosity, verve and panache. Rose Room: The Scottish band that combines brilliant musicianship and warm personality, is fronted by fiddle player and sophisticated songstress, Seonaid Aitken. Rose Room recreate the excitement of Rive Gauche Paris of the 30s and 40s with Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt. “Stupendous gypsy jazz, and a superb singer” (Scotsman).
